Free Games for 5 Year Olds

14 games picked for this age. Free in the browser, no ads, no sign-up, nothing to download.

Five-year-olds are usually in kindergarten, learning which sound each letter makes, writing letters with a pencil, and counting beyond ten. They can follow a rule for a whole game, take turns, and cope (mostly) with losing. That opens the door to the first real games: a board game against the computer, a maze that needs a plan, a puzzle that takes more than one try.

This is the age GameForKidz was first built for, so it has the most to choose from. Beginning Sounds and Letter Tracing match what kindergarten teaches about letters. Counting Fun, Dot to Dot, Dice Race and Snakes and Ladders build number sense through play. Maze Runner, Tangram Rocket, Color Connect and Nuts and Bolts are first puzzles: easy to start, with later levels that make a five-year-old stop and think. Rock Paper Scissors is good practice for winning and losing gracefully.

Questions parents ask

What games can you play with a 5 year old?

Simple turn-taking games work well at five. Dice Race takes up to four players on one screen, so the whole family can play. Snakes and Ladders and Rock Paper Scissors are played against the computer, which still works nicely with a parent cheering alongside. For playing alone, try first puzzles like Maze Runner or Tangram Rocket, and letter games like Beginning Sounds.

Will these help with kindergarten?

Several of them practise the same things: letter sounds, forming letters, counting and comparing numbers. They are a supplement to reading together and real play, not a replacement. For printable practice, see the kindergarten worksheets below.

Do I need to download anything?

No. Every game plays in the browser on a phone, tablet or computer. Nothing installs and there is no account.
