About Pattern Party

A line of pictures repeats — apple, flower, apple, flower — and the last spot is empty. Which one belongs there? Patterns start simple (two things taking turns) and grow into three-part patterns as your child keeps going. This is the very first form of algebra: noticing a rule and using it to predict.

How to Play

• Look at the row of pictures and find the repeat.
• Tap the picture that should come next.
• The empty spot fills in and a new pattern appears.

Tips & Tricks

• Say the pattern out loud: ‘apple, flower, apple, flower…’
• Point along the row with a finger while you say it.
• The patterns get longer once your child is confident.
